Week 2 Cleaning Week.

Yes you can clean for a week! I spent a whole month on our house one time! This is when you do the major jobs appliances, walls, scrubbing and perhaps even painting and sewing for the home.

Week 3 Cooking and Baking Week

Cook one day a month for meals to have on hand for your other weeks. (See Once-A-Month Cooking by Lagerborg and Wilson, Dinner’s in the Freezer! or Mega Cooking by Jill Bond for the how-tos of freezer cooking.) This can be a great timesaving activity. Although you and your family will work very hard on cooking day, this system saves a lot of time on all the other days. Another day bake several loaves of whole wheat bread, along with other breads such as muffins and bagels to accompany your freezer meals. This is the week to make some extra-special meals and invite friends to dinner.

Week 4: Business Week (or other major focus area)

This is the week you focus on your business if you have one. Read related books, work on marketing and those important extra projects you can’t usually fit in. Your children will be doing independent study, helping with the business or just enjoying their free time.

Week 5: Repeat the cycle or go into another of your focus areas.

You may choose to alternate your weeks like this.

Week 2: Cleaning and Cooking

Week 3: Homeschooling

Week 4: Extra Curricular for Mom (or business activities)

No matter what the focus of each week, never neglect responding to your children and their needs. With many responsibilities, it is even more important that we includes more prayer, Bible reading and meditation on the Scriptures. I’ve found that when I do this my productivity goes way up. The other day an acquaintance of mine told me he was angry. Out of the blue?

We were sitting round the table, engaging in small talk. I asked him what the cause of his anger. He replied it was something related to his brother’s behavior. His main concern though was how he could get rid of his anger.

The short conversation that ensued highlighted some interesting issues about …

Briefly, this is how it went:

Me: “So, you have a problem with your brother’s behavior?”

Him: “Yes, I do. And he makes me mad, very mad.”

Me: “Does your brother make you mad? Or you choose to be mad because of your brother’s behavior?”

You see, it all comes down to one word. That one word is ‘choice’. What we choose, when something happens. You may be aware of it, but there are moments everyday when you have to make choices. Those moments are crucial because minute though they may be, the choices that we make during them are life-changing.

An event happens. For some reasons your response is required. At that moment you make a choice about the kind of response that you deem appropriate.

So, based on your interpretation of what has happened, you choose any one of your ‘best behavior demanded by this situation’. And, if you were my acquaintance you would be angry. But why? Really, why?

The event, whatever it is, is just an event. What is important in the whole equation is your choice. You might not have been responsible for the event/situation, but for as long as you live, you are responsible for your response.

Sometimes the event is an extremely bad one. The kind we call bad luck, very unfortunate! When this kind of situation occurs to you, you ask yourself: “Why me, why not my cat or neighbor?”

Even here I am maintaining that no matter the event/situation, you are ultimately responsible for your responses. Taking responsibility for your responses is one of the first steps in owning your life. When you own your responses you dictate the terms of your success, and of your way forward.

I often say that there is nothing in this world that can make me mad, angry or sad without my consent. It is my life.

Oh, I hear you saying that you have heard this kind of thing so often. Let me add the subtle twist I promised. And you listen carefully henceforth.

In every behavior there is a positive intention. And in every of your reaction/response to whatever situation confronts you there is something we will call ’secondary gains’.

I am going to be slow here, because I need us to be reading on the same page.

When somebody does something to you, they may be annoying to you. But, what is the positive intention of their behavior? What purpose is that behavior serving? From their point of view? You may find that they are trying to protect themselves or preserve a particular status quo. Or that they are trying to get something. Maybe your attention or some peace of mind. You might be irritating them.

When your respond to their behavior (in whatever way) you are thinking of how their behavior benefits you or how it does not benefit you. So, your behavior (which I maintain is not caused by them) might also be a way of protecting yourself from some ‘perceived danger or intrusion’. And all time you are thinking of your own benefits in the unfolding drama.

What am I asking to make of all this.

Respond to all situations in a way that acknowledges the positive intention as well as your own secondary gains. If the two (situation’s positive intention and your ’secondary gains’) are in conflict, adopt an attitude of ‘it’s not so much what happens to me that matters. It is how I deal with the experience that matters’.

In many parts of the country we find that people with computer certifications are more plentiful than in other parts of the country. Recently when I was doing a study of this demographic and looking at the data from a computer magazine I noticed that many people who lived in Florida and along the Gulf Coast had more computer certifications per individual than in other parts of the country.

While in Florida and along the Gulf Coast there were more people who had more certifications, than expected.

Using SQL Server 2000 and above versions you can retrieve data from SQL Server in XML format directly from the database. Many XML related features were incorporated in the SQL Server database. This enables the development of XML enabled applications very easy and it makes exchange of data over internet easy. In this article we will discuss about how to use SQLXML to retrieve data directly from SQL server database in XML format.

There are some SQL commands and clauses that help you to retrieve data from the SQL Server in the XML format. Syntax for such is given below:

SELECT … FOR XML mode [, XMLDATA] [, ELEMENTS] [, BINARY BASE64]

There are different modes and that take the values of

AUTO – In this mode every row of the result of the query forms an element in the returned XML document.

EXPLICIT – This mode defines how to map the columns of the results returned by the query to the XML elements and the attributes.

RAW – All the fields of the result are identified as attributes of an element.

NESTED – The result of this mode is the same as the AUTO mode but the formatting has to be done at the client side.

A simple example of using the above syntax is given below:

FROM (SELECT FirstName+’ ‘+LastName as Name FROM Employees)
FOR XML AUTO

The query produces this result:

Employees Name=”John Peter”

There are optional parameters in the ‘FOR XML mode’ clause. The XMLDATA option adds an XSD schema which describes the XML format of the result returned. The ELEMENTS options make the fields of the tables in the database to be returned as child elements. If the ELEMENTS option is not there the fields of the tables are returned as attributes instead of child elements of the XML document. The ELEMENTS option is allowed only in the AUTO mode. The BINARY BASE64 option is used to retrieve any binary data. The returned binary data is returned in BASE64 encoded format. The binary data can be retrieved in the RAW or EXPLICIT mode.

An example of the RAW mode is given below:

The above code returns a result like,

SqlXmlAdapter – this is the adapter class for SQLXML provider. This is used to fill the dataset.

SqlXmlException – this is used to trap the error information from the SQL Server.
